If you've ever bought lasers before, you know it's a gamble. I usually buy three for each one I need, knowing that I'll have to send the other two defective units back! Well, this is one time when a middle man is useful. I either pull them myself or order from all of the shady foreign websites and wait 6 months for the order to arrive, then I sort through all the defective units. The end result is a tested, guaranteed to work laser that's shipped from inside the USA! If something goes wrong, returns are just as fast and easy. Yes, my lasers might be a little more expensive, but if you've ever dealt with replacement lasers from China (or North Brunswick, New Jersey) then you know the extra money is worth it! This laser has been tuned SPECIFICALLY for the Sega CD model 2. The RF eye pattern is adjusted to 1.0Vpp. It is tested with genuine game media to load games, audio, and FMV without any skipping or freezing. I then sort them by how well they perform with CD-CHECK - a testing disc that has increasingly difficult to read audio test tracks. These lasers have passed level 4 (out of 5). They will work normally even if they only pass level 1, but I would not consider that a healthy laser for a Sega CD. I have never seen a Sega CD able to pass level 5, so these are as good as it gets! Please note: FMV on CD-R games will likely be choppy. It is incredibly difficult to get flawless FMV even with high quality CD-R media burned correctly and using a well tuned laser.
