The item was brand new as described. I'm not a box collector, luckily, as the seller shipped the item in the Lego box which almost ruined a Christmas surprise. I normally wouldn't care at all but around the holidays items shouldn't be shipped in the original packaging. It all worked out though. I still feel like I got a good deal and the box was in surprisingly good shape for being shipped in the original packaging.
