Walt Frazier scored 33 points and Willis Reed put up a 23/19 double-double to lead the Knicks to a 128 - 119 victory. This was Hawks rookie Pete Maravich’s first regular season NBA game at Madison Square Garden, and he responded by scoring 40 points for the first time in his young career. Bill Bridges chipped in 21 points & 20 rebounds in the losing effort.
